Red Lilies and Blue Butterflies When I had an herbaceous border I liked the way that the various plants changed over the season and how a very stiff and formal flower would become loose and tumble around its neighbouring flowers. As much as I tried to stake the plants to make them look tidier they would behave in this erratic way, falling over as soon as my back was turned! This painting reminds me of those times. Nature will have its own way!
